Affirmation or Renewal of Vows Ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular for many reasons. For some, it's a lovely way to commemorate a special wedding anniversary and to acknowledge & celebrate your achievements together as husband and wife. Some couples were unable to have their "dream wedding" when they were first married. This may have been due to financial hardship, family beliefs or the young age at which they were married. This ceremony provides them with the opportunity to organise their own ceremony just the way they always wanted. This type of ceremony is also suited to married couples who, after separation, have reunited and wish to celebrate & share with family & friends their renewed commitment to each other. You may also have a Renewal of Vows Ceremony if you were married overseas or away from your family & friends. The vows can be similar to your original ceremony but without the legal documentation. Ceremonies can be a re-creation of your original wedding, with the original wedding party invited to participate or, we can create a totally new & personal celebration of your life together. It's important to remember this is a "Renewal" of your commitment and not a legal marriage ceremony. Friends, family members, children & grandchildren can all play an important role in the ceremony. It's a unique occasion for the whole family to bond and share family history or read a special verse or poem. There are many beautiful ways to celebrate this occasion; walk hand-in-hand along your favourite beach to "your special song", exchange new wedding bands or eternity rings, or light a candle to symbolise the unity & warmth of your love. The cover of your invitation could feature your first wedding portrait, or play your original wedding video at the reception or music from that era. Your ceremony can be very formal or more casual and fun, it can completely reflect who you are as a couple. It's a beautiful way to affirm the strength of your ongoing love for each other and say "after all these years, I still choose you above all others to spend my life with". At the present time, marriages between same sex couples are not legal in Australia, however you can still hold a ceremony to publicly express and celebrate your love, your commitment and your desire to share your lives together. We will work together to design a ceremony that is unique, sensitive and reflects your individual personalities and beliefs. You create your own ceremony, which can be as traditional or alternative as you wish. Your ceremony can be similar to the traditional wedding ceremony (without the legal phrases), with the couple writing their own personal vows declaring their hopes & dreams for their future & exchanging rings if they choose. Or it can be a casual, fun celebration of your life together. There are many special ways to symbolise your commitment; a traditional hand fasting ceremony to show the binding nature of your relationship, the joining of two coloured sands to represent the joining of two individuals as one. A lovely way for friends & family to pass on their blessings is the "Warming of the Rings" where your rings are placed in a small bag and passed around during the ceremony, as each guest touches them, they make a wish for both of you. It would be my pleasure and my privilege to be a part of your special day as you state your vows to each other in the presence of family and friends.
